Photo Friday (25th)

The following 3 pictures came from 2 different sources, 3 if I count duplicates of the pictures.  The last picture, for the most part, was a mystery when I first got it.  There are still a few pieces of information missing, but I now believe that all of these are a part of the Thomas J. Houle family story.

Circa 1905 – The Thomas J. Houle family, White Bear Lake
Back row (left to right): Dolphus, Albert and Vina
Front row (left to right): Thomas, Arthur (Archie), Wilfred, Lena and Mildred
Thomas and Lena (Leona Rose Derosier) were my great-granduncle and great-grandaunt.  Lena was one of great-grandma Celestine Peltier’s younger sisters, my grandmother Ellen Vadnais’ aunt.  Around the time that this picture was taken, the family had moved to 3rd Street in White Bear.  When Ellen and Adlore married and moved to Jennie Vadnais’ house on 3rd and Murray, Ellen’s Aunt Lena would have been nearby.

1915 – Thomas Houle family home White Bear Lake, shown, left to right: unknown, unknown, Vina (Houle) LeVasseur, Lena (Derosier) Houle, Mildred Houle, Thomas Houle, Dolphus Houle and either Albert or Arthur Houle.
Washington School is in the background facing 4th Street and the Houle house is on 3rd Street between Murray and Miller facing south.  Vina appears to be pregnant with her first son, Thomas Malcolm.  I believe that the first picture in this post was taken by the side of this house.

Thanks for visiting, come back soon,
Cynthia

  1. The backdrop for the first picture is intriguing! My first thought was they were bed sheets. If so, I would be surprised at the print. Perhaps the material would be used for homemade clothing later. OR……did the material belong to the photographer???

There just aren’t enough words to thank you for the research you’ve done, Cynthia!!!

    Love, Sue
