The following pictures are of my first cousins once removed, siblings Gladys, Delores and Howard (Bud) Bloom, the children of Howard and Vina (Peltier) Bloom.

Bud was born October 16, 1915 and died February 18, 1999. He was the youngest of the 3 children.
The following picture was taken at the Bloom house, 723 6th Street, White Bear Lake. The house is gone; it would have been located at about the south entrance to The Arbors of White Bear Lake, just east of Division Avenue.

Upon enlisting in the National Guard, Bud became a member of the Headquarters Battery for the 101st Coast Artillery Brigade (C. A.) which focused on training and mobilization planning for harbor and antiaircraft defenses in the Great Lakes/Minnesota region. The unit was based at the National Guard Armory in White Bear Lake, which was built in 1922. The men of the 101st spent 2 weeks at the Armory after which they were sent to Riverside, California to serve out the 1 year of their initial enlistment. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the one-year enlistment turned into years as the United States entered WWII and the National Guard was federalized. Bud, his first cousin Dick Vadnais and his future brother-in-law Earl Kulkey, were all members of the same unit.

Delores, the middle child, was born on February 13, 1913 and died on May 11, 2012. She married Earl Kulkey on March 25, 1942.

Gladys, the first born, was born on May 29, 1911 and died on August 20, 1993. She married Walter Berg on October 23, 1934.
